When buying a movie DVD, do I need Widescreen or Full Screen?
We've come to accept the limitations of Movie DVDS
in Widescreen format. In fact the latest trend is for a DVD Set to contain multiple disks, perhaps a HD-DVD Edition, a “regular” Disk
& sometimes a Blu-Ray version
too.
Still if one is buying a DVD & it is labeled Widescreen or Full
Screen, this article will be quite helpful in avoiding disappointment or surprise. The article is a little old in “digital era” years, but the facts still hold true.
"Movies on DVD are often available in 2 screen formats: full screen & wide screen. The full screen is where a movie is modified to fit a
TV screen. If you have watched a video release, you have probably seen the message:
'This film has been modified from its original version'. The wide screen version maintains the same size & shape of the original theatrical version."
